It’s hard to imagine a world without Uber nowadays. The simplicity of opening an app on your mobile device, entering a destination, and pushing a button, has made the hassle of traveling somewhat enjoyable. Oh, and the cheap price. Who doesn’t love saving money? Well, it seems that, while great for the consumer (and driver), the existence of Uber has significantly damaged the taxi industry. Many taxi drivers have either lost their job or had to find a new one due to low demand.
As a result, the taxi industry is calling on respective governments to regulate Uber. Some, like France, have complied. Now, many other cities are attempting to follow suit, causing more unease and pressure between the two groups. Around the world, Uber protests have grown from a few hundred strong to now a few thousand strong. Protests, once peaceful demonstrations, are now escalating to road shut downs and even violence.
